Episode 9: Tired of Life Beating You Down? Here’s How to Fight Back!

Hey Rare Ones! Welcome back to the Be Rare Podcast, your dedicated space to embrace being truly HUMAN, to courageously GROW into the woman you DESIRE, and to transform your PAIN into undeniable POWER. This is your space, this is your constant reminder: BE RARE.

In our journey together so far, we've explored self-awareness, purpose, seeking help, navigating faith, rebuilding after breakdown, letting go of the past, and building a relationship with yourself. Now, in Episode 9, we're diving into a raw and urgent topic: how to fight back when life swings at you, and why you should never, ever lay down!

This week, I'm getting really real about how to fight back when life swings at you. Have you ever been in a good space – like I was with the podcast, making progress, dropping episodes and skits every week – and then, boom? Life hit me with an uppercut! I'm not gonna lie, it knocked me down.

For me, life knocking me out looks like overthinking to the point where nothing gets done, and not standing in my power. I had to ask myself: "Raven, how are you going to fight back?" Those thoughts will try to come in and take your power, making you feel like what you're doing isn't good enough. Even in the midst of this, I'm not doing it exactly how I want to, but I'm showing up.

Recognizing Your Signs (When Life is "Life-ing")

I've learned to identify my own signals when life is trying to "beat my ass":

  • Endless Scrolling: When I'm dead scrolling social media, just to scroll and not think, something is going on that I need to deal with.

  • Irritability: Once I get irritated, that's a sign.

  • Physical Heaviness: My forehead feels like it's about to explode from overwhelm and overthinking. That's when I know I need to take a breather.

My Battle-Tested Tools to Fight Back:

When I acknowledge how I'm feeling, here are some things I do to get back in my power:

  • Walks: Just 10-15 minutes can reset my whole body. Moving your body really helps.

  • Gym: Going to the gym helps me release dopamine, which lowers stress levels. It's my way of releasing that built-up stress.

  • Journaling: I'll write down how I'm feeling, though sometimes when I'm in that "solve the problem" mode, I just need to get outside and move.

  • Meditation: I've started adding meditations to just breathe and be.

  • Dance Party! Put on your favorite music and dance that sh*t out. It helps release stress and makes you feel good.

It's hard because it's so easy to go back to what's familiar, like scrolling or calling a friend. But if you don't have tools to fight back, "you gonna lay down on that sh*t every time". And I'm not doing that anymore!

The Power of Your Purpose & Self-Talk:

I had to remember: I have a mission, I have a purpose over my life. When you're going through things, you have to talk to yourself. I talk to myself like, "Do you know you that girl? Do you know how much you've overcame? Do you know who you are and who you're destined to be?  Because if you're overthinking and overwhelmed, you're probably talking to yourself like "you're a piece of sh*t", and that won't get you out of that place.

We have to learn to reframe our minds and the way we talk to ourselves. Your self-talk matters! When that negative side tries to talk to you, you talk back: "Uh uh, we not doing that! I am wonderful, I am great. I have a purpose over my life. I am smart. I am imperfect but I am improving. This one moment will not dictate my whole day!"

I also realized how my own actions, like waking up late, can throw off my whole routine, leading to chaos and overwhelm. You need to do "retrospectives" on yourself  – figure out the pattern, what makes you overwhelmed, and identify the problem to get rid of it or work on it.

Key Takeaways:

  • Know Your Signs: Identify what it looks like when life is trying to overwhelm you31.

  • Have Your Tools: Figure out what works for you to release stress and fight back (walking, gym, journaling, dancing, meditation).

  • Talk to Yourself Right: Refrain your mind and speak to yourself with grace and empowerment, not tearing yourself down.

  • Connect to Your Mission: Remember your purpose. This will keep you fighting, regardless of how you feel.

  • "Your mama ain't raised no punk!" When life swings, you swing back.

Your Homework:

This week, I invite you to step into your power:

  1. Ask yourself: What concrete step will YOU take to fight back when life swings at you?

  2. Your homework is to actively use your tools. Figure out what truly works for you so you can unleash your power and bravely fight back against life's swings. Remember that strength is already within you.

I'm incredibly proud of you! Because the very first step in fighting back is seeking out that motivation. We are fighting back together!

If you need someone to talk to, if you need that extra push or simply to say, "I'm committing!", Text Raven at (816) 412- 4604 to commit to fighting back together. You don't have to go through this alone; we're in this together.
