Hey Rare Ones! Welcome back to the Be Rare Podcast, your trusted space where we give ourselves permission to be fully HUMAN, where we commit to GROWING into the women we truly DESIRE to be, and where we learn the power of transforming our PAIN into undeniable POWER. You are THAT GIRL, and this is your constant reminder: BE RARE.
In our first three episodes, we've laid some crucial groundwork: self-awareness, knowing your "why," and the courage it takes to seek help even when it's imperfect. Now, in Episode 4, I'm opening up about a relationship that is central to my life and my healing journey, but one that hasn't always been easy or look "churchy": my relationship with God.
In this episode, I get incredibly vulnerable about what it truly means to grow with God – not just believe in God, but to build a dynamic, real relationship, even when that relationship starts messy, includes anger, and is far from what others might deem "perfect."
I share the raw, emotional story of how I went through a period of feeling incredibly distant from, and yes, even angry with God. The loss of my grandmother, who was my spiritual rock and the person who modeled faith for me, shook my world and left me questioning everything I thought I knew. But it was through that deep pain and confusion that I discovered a deeper, more authentic connection with God. It wasn't by pretending to have it all together; it was by showing up exactly as I was – hurt, confused, messy, and real.
This episode is for anyone who has ever felt disconnected from their faith, who struggles with the idea of a perfect God or a perfect believer, or who is simply trying to figure out what a genuine spiritual relationship looks like for them. I want to challenge any preconceived notions you might have about what a relationship with God has to look like. My encouragement to you is to stop trying to mold yourself into someone "perfect" for God. Instead, come just as you are – with your doubts, your pain, your questions, your mess – and allow that to be the starting point for growth.
Here’s a peek into what you’ll hear in this deeply personal episode:
How my early experiences with church and religion shaped my initial, often rigid, views of God.
The specific breaking point that finally brought me to God in total, messy honesty.
Why your authentic relationship with God doesn’t need to look like anyone else's journey or connection.
Ideas and encouragement on how to identify and build your own sacred connection – whether that’s through traditional prayer, journaling, walking in nature, or simply having honest conversations in your car.
The critical importance of holding onto testimonies – the evidence of God’s work in your life that can sustain you.
I close the episode with a powerful prayer that I hope resonates with believers, skeptics, and anyone in between.
These are some key takeaways I truly hope you internalize:
You don’t need a perfect blueprint or a traditional background to build a real relationship with God.
Your relationship with Him can absolutely start in a place of pain, anger, or confusion, and still lead you to peace and transformation.
Let go of religious performance and the pressure to look a certain way; focus on cultivating an honest, personal connection with the Divine.
God accepts you exactly as you are, not as you feel you have to pretend to be. Authenticity is key.
Make it a practice to keep track of what He’s already brought you through – these testimonies are your fuel during the next storm.
And here is your challenge for this week, Rare One:
Take some time to reflect: How do you connect best with God (or a higher power, or the Divine)? Is it through quiet prayer, journaling your thoughts, walking in nature, listening to music, or something else entirely? This week, intentionally explore what truly grounds your relationship with Him – and commit to doing it consistently. As you do, try to write down a testimony – something, anything, that God has already done or brought you through. Track the shift in your heart and mind. See what changes when you lean into authentic connection.
